My name is Keith Haxton and I'm running to be the Democratic Representative of HD 21 because corruption in our political and economic system is so severe that we are entering a new Gilded Age. The results of this corruption have been massive growth in inequality, unparalleled environmental degradation and other harmful impacts to our health and daily lives. I firmly believe that this rampant and blatant corruption is at the core of all the major political problems we face in Oregon.

While working class folks are going deeper into to debt, working longer hours, and still struggling to afford basic necessities like food and rent, year after year, career politicians continue prioritizing the profits of wealthy corporations over the needs of the people who elect them. While unscrupulous officials subsidize real estate developers and big businesses with corporate welfare schemes (like urban renewal districts), they're also shifting the burden of paying for public services to working class households who are already struggling to make ends meet. We deserve better than false promises, cuts to social services and higher taxes.

I'm the only candidate for House District 21 who has not and will not accept large campaign contributions (of over $1,000 total, per donor, per biennium). Every candidate and every politician says that large campaign contributions don't affect their votes or change their behavior as a public official. My experience working within our political system has shown me otherwise. We need leaders who will fight corruption and inequality, and listen to what the people want.
